The documentation of events and artists feels like contributing to the vast collection of music history. It's an uncontrollable urge to document that drives my photography most days.
When I look at this installation, seeing each image makes me recall each moment in my memory. I can remember where I was, the joy or excitement I felt, the friendships and budding careers of my fellow artists. The years sometimes become a blur as I keep moving fast, and my archive of photos helps me keep track of the little and big moments.

"Waterfall"

Time is like a fast-moving river; moments come and go, flowing into the great sea of us all. You never walk through the same river twice, and the same is true about moments in time. The photos in this piece are selections from 2019-2025 of Waffles’ career as a live music photographer and journalist, capturing single snapshots of people’s lives, while they simultaneously take a place in hers. The streams are layered, even covered in some parts; in life, you can never see or understand every person’s memories and lived past. Many photos come from her work with KERA / KXT Radio.

Fabricating the piece was spearheaded by James Maker, whose extensive background with creating large-scale art pieces helped Waffles find the way to produce the vision. Made from polyurethane foam and resin, the duo sculpted a structure to create the waterfall silhouette, using the foam as a diffuser to illuminate the piece from the inside with LED lights.
